Breast cancer prevention: information, screening and looking after women’s health

Breast Health Open Day

Breast cancer prevention It is a key element in safeguarding women’s health. Information, regular check-ups and being mindful of changes in one’s body are important tools for raising awareness and facilitating early diagnosis.

To mark the occasion of Pink October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Terme di Chianciano reaffirms its commitment to promoting health and prevention, highlighting the role of medicine and the collaboration between healthcare professionals, associations and local organisations.

Breast cancer: why prevention is important

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in Italy. According to the report Cancer statistics in Italy 2025, in 2024 it was estimated that 53,065 new cases among women. The document also states that approximately 925,000 women in Italy are living with a diagnosis of breast cancer.

An important figure relates to survival: the net five-year survival rate from diagnosis is’88%. Advances in treatment and the widespread adoption of early diagnosis have helped to improve the outlook for patients, making access to check-ups and participation in recommended screening programmes essential.

These figures serve as a reminder of how important it is to promote a culture of prevention, by encouraging access to information and specialist consultations at different stages of life.

Breast Health Open Day at the Chianciano Thermal Baths: prevention through collaboration

On 22 October 2026, during Pink October, the Institute for Health Medical Centre at the Chianciano Thermal Spa hosted the’Breast Health Open Day, a day dedicated to breast cancer prevention and raising awareness, with free breast screening appointments.

The initiative was organised in collaboration with the Association IoSempreDonna, the Breast Unit in Siena and local specialists, confirming the value of a healthcare network capable of bringing specialist expertise closer to women and making screening opportunities more accessible.

The Open Day was aimed at women aged between 30 and 45 and women over 74 – age groups not covered by the Tuscany Region’s standard mammography screening programme. The event provided a further opportunity to focus on health, serving as a reminder that prevention is not limited to screening programmes but is an ongoing process throughout the different stages of life.

As highlighted by the Medical Director Manela Scaramuzzino «The high turnout recorded last year confirms just how important it is to have easily accessible prevention initiatives that are close to people’s homes. Repeating the Open Day means ensuring continuity in our joint efforts across the local area and offering women a practical opportunity to look after their health».

Institute for Health: an integrated approach to health

The Breast Health Open Day forms part of the Terme di Chianciano Institute for Health’s wider commitment to promoting prevention and personal wellbeing.

The venue offers tailored programmes which integrate clinical, diagnostic and rehabilitation pathways, with an approach focused on physical and mental wellbeing and the promotion of healthy lifestyles. A model that recognises the value of healthcare expertise and the importance of care tailored to individual needs.

Collaboration with local specialists and organisations is a key element of this commitment: creating opportunities for public information, facilitating access to screening and promoting a culture of prevention all contribute in a practical way to safeguarding the health of the community.

Prevention starts with awareness

Looking after your health means keeping up with recommended check-ups, discussing any concerns with your doctor and not ignoring any signs that may require specialist assessment.

Through initiatives such as the Breast Health Open Day, Terme di Chianciano reaffirms its commitment to prevention and women’s health, promoting a culture based on information, collaboration and continuity of care.

**Because prevention is a process that is built up over time, through awareness, access to screening and taking care of one’s health.**.
