Free your breath with inhalation cures at Terme di Chianciano
For the various forms of rhinitis, sinusitis, chronic and/or allergic tracheopharyngitis, the treatment par excellence is definitely aerosol treatment and inhalation using thermal water. Inhalation treatments are a natural, non-pharmacological remedy for treating or preventing upper respiratory tract disorders. They are useful in chronic and relapsing forms, to prevent flare-ups and infectious complications.
It is advisable to perform inhalation treatments when the symptomatology is in quiescence, outside seasonal peaks, to achieve the best efficacy. Contracted inhalation cures consist of aerosols and inhalations. Nasal showers, which are not contracted, can also be performed. These are inhalation cures that tend to normalise the functions of the respiratory mucosa, with a recognised anti-inflammatory action, reducing the sensation of nasal obstruction, sneezing and watery secretion.
They are suitable for all ages including children.
Aerosols
Thermal aerosol at the Chianciano Thermal Baths is a simple and effective procedure, consisting of nebulised bicarbonate-calcium sulphate thermal water, which can be administered with a mask or nasal fork, to allow the steam particles to reach the affected airway districts.
This exploits the soothing, anti-inflammatory, mildly mucolytic and antispasmodic action of thermal water, without the use of pharmacological or chemical substances.
The session lasts about 10 minutes, according to the individual instructions of the spa doctor.
On the advice of the spa doctor, sonic aerosol can also be performed: in this case, the bicarbonate-sulphate-calcic water particles are reduced to a very small size, about 2 microns each, and can easily reach both the upper and lower respiratory tracts.
With sonic aerosol, the thermal water particles are set into vibration by an ultrasonic source at a frequency of 100 Hz, vibrating for 20 sec. with a 10 sec. pause, to acquire greater penetration power, making these inhalation treatments particularly effective in chronic tracheobronchial pathologies, chronic rhinosinusitis, with or without tubotimpanic complications.
Inhalations
The same thermal water used for the aerosol is fragmented into larger vapour particles and delivered as an inhalation jet to be breathed in deeply with the mouth open. In this way, a complete cleansing of the first airways takes place, carrying away all environmental dust that can stimulate irritation of the mucous membrane.
The warm-humid steam has an additional action of stimulating the blood circulation and lymphatic vessels, with decongesting action and favouring the modulation of the natural local immune defences.
The session lasts about 10 minutes, according to the spa doctor's instructions.
Nasal showers
Nasal showers are indicated for rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis and chronic nasopharyngitis, each session lasting about 10 minutes. With this technique it is possible to penetrate the ethmoidal labyrinth with thermal water, which also has a fluidifying effect on the meatuses, i.e. the cavities that connect the nasal cavities and the paranasal sinuses.
Nasal showers combine the action of washing with a pleasant water massage useful for reactivating the local circulation and thus the natural immune defences; they have a cleansing and humidifying function of the nasal cavities and paranasal sinuses, freeing them of catarrhal secretions and facilitating the natural aeration of these spaces; in this way, the proliferation of viruses and pathogenic bacteria is counteracted.
